Her Royal Highness's Yearly Christmas Service of Carols Honours Community Volunteers

Catherine, Princess of Wales, is presiding over her yearly Yuletide celebration at the iconic London venue, with guests including dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have helped their communities.

The large audience will hear a selection of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from stars like Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Focusing on Love and Generosity

The theme of the concert, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

Attending the event are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose child passed away from a brain cancer, and who set up a charity, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a child with a terminal illness.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often discreetly and without words, and without any expectation or recognition, make an profound impact to the circumstances of individuals," the Princess expressed in a message before the concert.

Carefully Paced Reappearance

The royal has been undertaking her own steady comeback to the public eye following her health challenges and treatment, last month delivering her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Musical Talent and Access

Those coming to the Abbey will enjoy performances from talented youth performers aided by the Future Talent organisation, co-founded by the late Duchess of Kent to widen access to music lessons.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who is a trumpet player and is from Wales, has been helped by the charity, with funding assisting with musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "amazing" to be taking part in the evening's event.

"Music can be very expensive," Carys said. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to hone their artistic talents.

A Family Affair

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who plays the euphonium, will also be at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Attending the service will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will include young Saphia Turner, nine, winner of a prize for youthful altruism, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to collect donations for local food charities.

Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts

The Abbey has been adorned with specially made wreaths, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

The musical lineup includes singer Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a nautical singing ensemble, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the perfect culmination."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be broadcast on television on December 24th.
