The winter transfer window is typically a period of significant rumour and potential big-money moves. A number of notable players are being linked with transfers out of their current teams. We examine some of the major figures that could be on the move in January.

A. Semenyo

Villa were initially mentioned as a potential destination, but that option currently seems unlikely. Instead, clubs from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are reportedly expressing curiosity in the 33-year-old.

Ivan Toney

The proven England centre-forward has kept scoring frequently in the Middle East. Coming back to the Premier League might boost his fading chances of being in the national World Cup. With his current deal running down, many Premier League sides – such as Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are keeping tabs on the developments. The Turin club are desperate to secure the 20-year-old to a lengthy contract but face a battle to keep one of Europe's most promising prospects.

Kees Smit

This highly-touted Netherlands midfielder has drawn parallels to Kevin De Bruyne for his playing style. After starring at the U19 Euros, Smit has broken into the AZ side. This teenager is heavily expected to complete a major transfer this month. Newcastle United reportedly are frontrunners, but could face stiff competition from the Spanish champions for a signing priced at approximately £22 million.
